Prior to the adoption of Ord. 2004-28 on 11/04/2004, Section 16.04.050 read as follows.

    A subordinate building or a portion of a main building on a lot, the use of which is customarily incidental to that of a main or principal building. All accessory structures and buildings over one hundred eighty (180) square feet shall be designed and constructed as to be compatible with the architectural components of the main dwelling or building. This shall include similar roof pitch, similar exterior material and design, landscaping, etc.  (PZSC § 03-15-010)
