The mayor:

    A.    Shall be the chief executive officer to whom all employees of the municipality shall report;

    B.    Shall keep the peace and enforce the laws of the City or town;

    C.    Shall remit fines and forfeitures and may release any person imprisoned for violation of any municipal ordinance;

    D.    Shall report such remittance or release to the council at its next regular session;

    E.    Shall perform all duties prescribed by law, resolution or ordinance;

    F.    Shall ensure that all the laws and ordinances and resolutions are faithfully executed and observed;

    G.    May at any reasonable time examine and inspect the books, papers, records or documents of the city or town or of any officer, employee or agent of the city or town;

    H.    Shall report to the council the condition of the city or town and recommend for council consideration any measures ad deemed to be in the best interests of the city or town;

    I.    Shall appoint, with the advice and consent of the council, persons to fill municipal offices or vacancies on commission or committees of the municipality, except as provided in Chapter 2.28 of this title. (Added during 1993 recodification)
