Prior to the adoption of Ord. 2005-15 on 10/05/2005, Section 6.12.070 read as follows.

    A.    Every operator of a motor vehicle or other self-propelled vehicle upon the streets of the jurisdiction   Vernal City shall immediately upon injuring  i njury, striking, maiming or running down any domestic animal give such aid as can reasonably be rendered. In the absence of the owner, he shall immediately notify the Animal Control Officer, shelter manager, or police officer providing furnishing requested information   facts relative to such injury.
    B.     In the absence of the owner, iI t shall be the duty of such operator to remain at or near the scene until such time as the appropriate authorities arrive, and upon arrival of such authorities, the operator shall immediately identify himself to such authorities. Alternately, in the absence of the owner, a person may give aid by taking the animal to the animal shelter   control facility or other appropriate facility such as a veterinary clinic   and notify ing  the Animal Control Officer , shelter manager or police officer of the incident . Such animal may be accepted taken in by the animal shelter control facility and dealt with as deemed appropriate under the circumstances. Injuries or fatalities reported to the Animal Control Officer shall be reported to the animal shelter.  
    C.    Emergency vehicles are exempted from the requirements of this provision. (CC § 08-10-018)
