Section 6.22.030 Sterilization pre-payment.

    A.  A sterilization   prepayment shall be:
        1.    A portion of the adoption fee or claim fee for the animal.  
        2.    A   prepayment is:
            a) paid to the animal shelter for the purpose of compensating, in part, a licensed veterinarian for the sterilization of an animal that has been impounded or is to be adopted.  The veterinarian shall bill the animal shelter for the sterilization services of animals for which such services have been provided.  Costs for sterilization of the animal in excess of the  prepayment paid to the animal shelter shall be paid by the owner of the animal to the veterinarian at the time of sterilization.  Sterilization must be completed within thirty (30) days of the prepayment being made unless extension of the thirty (30) day period has been duly authorized by the animal shelter manager ; and
            b) prepayment by owners of impounded animals claimed will be forfeited to the City if proof of sterilization is not presented to the animal shelter in compliance with subsection (A)(2a); and
        3.    A prepayment is  required to be paid in order to claim or adopt an unsterilized animal impounded at the animal shelter.  
    B.  Sterilization prepayment fee under Subsection (A) shall be established by resolution of the City Council.  
    C.  If a female dog or cat and her litter are released  to one person, a sterilization prepayment is required only for the mother dog or cat.
