Chapter 9.04 FIRE DEPARTMENT
Section 9.04.040 Duties of Fire Chief.
A. Reports to and assumes command of emergency responses.
B. Plans, coordinates, and directs the overall activities
of the fire department.
C. Assigns men to special duties, such as training,
fire prevention, and fire inspections.
D. Supervises the investigation and determination of
fire causes.
E. Maintains a good fire prevention program year-round,
including inspections and
enforcement of local fire prevention ordinances.
F. Maintains discipline and promotes the good morale
of the fire department.
G. Directs and inspects the maintenance and repair
of all firefighting equipment.
H. Directs the preparation and maintenance of all reports
necessary to maintain an efficient
fire department.
I. Supervises the training of personnel.
J. Assists the Vernal City Council and the city manager
in the preparation of the annual
budget.
K. Consults the City Council, County Commission and
the city manager regarding major
policy determination.
L. Keeps inventories of fire fighting equipment and
recommends to the city manager needed
supplies.
M. Initiates mutual aid plans to cover large scale
fires when all equipment is being used and
added protection is necessary.
N. Presides at all meetings of the volunteer fire department
and attends public meetings,
educating the public in regards to fire prevention programs.
O. Prepares and implements procedural and training
policies relating to fire suppression and
prevention activities of the fire department.
P. Is responsible for the general condition an effective
operation of the department and the
performance of all other duties imposed upon him.
Q. Is capable of performing all duties of a volunteer
firefighter. (Added during 1993
